Start with business-critical journeys

Open the home page on a phone and desktop, then try to complete the most important action: sending an inquiry, requesting a quote, booking, or purchasing. Test every visible contact method with real recipient accounts. Read the page as a first-time visitor: can you tell what the business offers, where it operates, and what will happen after you get in touch?

Check the technical basics

Confirm the intended canonical hostname works over HTTPS and other hostname variants redirect consistently. Inspect navigation links, 404 responses, image loading and mobile overflow. If replacing an older website, map each important old URL to a relevant new page using a permanent redirect rather than sending every old URL to the homepage. Save a pre-launch backup and confirm you can restore it.

Help search engines discover the site

Each indexable page should have an accurate title, useful description, clear main heading, accessible content and a self-referencing canonical URL where appropriate. Check robots.txt and any noindex directives. Generate a sitemap containing real, public canonical URLs and submit it to Google Search Console. A sitemap cannot fix a DNS failure or a blocked page, and submission does not guarantee indexing.

Measure and maintain after launch

Verify your analytics setup using a live event and test the lead action itself. Record the launch date, the owner of each service account, and how to report issues. Review Search Console for crawl errors, indexing changes and queries during the following weeks. Schedule content reviews, backup checks and dependency updates instead of treating launch day as the end of the project.

Practical checklist

  • Test contact links and one complete lead journey
  • Check HTTPS, redirects and the preferred domain
  • Check mobile navigation, speed and images
  • Review page titles, descriptions and headings
  • Confirm no accidental noindex or Disallow rules
  • Validate sitemap and Search Console access
  • Verify analytics and consent where required
  • Save backups and ownership records

Frequently asked questions

Does submitting a sitemap immediately rank a new website?

No. It helps with discovery, but Google independently decides whether and when to index pages.

What is the most expensive launch mistake?

Breaking a lead form or failing to preserve important existing URLs can cost more than small visual imperfections.
